Newtown Township Police Make Arrests; Investigate Fraud, Theft Cases

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The Newtown Township Police Department reports the following incidents and arrests:
July 1, 2022
- At approximately 8:30 a.m. a Newtown Township resident contacted police to report a large fraudulent transaction on her credit card. The resident contacted her bank to cancel the credit card and to remedy the situation.
- At approximately 7:45 p.m. police received reports of theft and attempted theft from a locker room. The total value of loss was $65. Police received another theft report around 9 p.m. The total value of loss was approximately $450.
- At approximately 9 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the operator of a gray Mercury Sable for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of South Sycamore Street. Upon speaking with the operator, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The operator was unable to satisfactorily perform field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
- As a part of the Bucks County DUI Task Force, Newtown Township participated in a roving DUI detail throughout Newtown and Wrightstown townships. During this detail, eight traffic stops were conducted, and eight warnings were issued for traffic violations.
July 3, 2022
- At approximately 2 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the operator of a black Nissan Sentra for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of South Eagle Road. Upon contact with the operator, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The operator was unable to satisfactorily perform field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia were also discovered and seized as evidence. Charges are pending evidence results.
- Police were dispatched to a Newtown Township residence shortly after 8 p.m. for the report of a disturbance. As a result of the investigation, one subject was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant out of the Bucks County Sheriff’s Department and the Doylestown Township Police Department. The subject was processed and transported without incident and was released to the Sheriff’s Department.
July 5, 2022
- At approximately 10 p.m. police were dispatched to the Acme Market for the report of a retail theft, not in progress. The total value of loss was approximately $20.
July 6, 2022
- At approximately 3 p.m. police received the report of a theft of scrap metal that occurred in Newtown Township. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
- Police investigated the discharge of a firearm that occurred within the Newtown Township municipal complex at approximately 3:46 p.m. As a result of the ongoing investigation, one subject was arrested and the firearm was secured.
July 7, 2022
- The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail in the area of the Wrightstown Township Municipal Building. The unit is made up of officers from Newtown Township, Newtown Borough, and the Upper Makefield Township Police Department. During the detail, three trucks were stopped and inspected, and one warning was issued for a violation that was found.
