Fraudulent Activity, Assault Arrests Lead Newtown Twp. Police Report
Police from three departments also conducted a truck safety detail at Washington and Elm in Newtow Borough.
NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between Sept. 26 and Oct. 5:
Sept. 26
At approximately 4:15 p.m. police received the report of altered checks that resulted from the theft that occurred on September 26 from the United States Postal System office located at 20 Terry Drive. The two blue boxes located in the parking lot were pried open during the overnight hours, and an unknown amount of mail was stolen from inside. In the past, police have investigated thefts of personal checks from these boxes which were eventually altered and cashed for
significantly greater amounts. Police suggest that if you used these boxes after business hours on September 25, monitor your accounts closely and cancel any personal checks that have been mailed.

Sept. 29
A Newtown Township resident stopped at police headquarters around 12:30 p.m. to report fraudulent activity involving unauthorized charges on his credit card. The bank is investigating the matter.

October 1
Police were dispatched to a Newtown Township residence at 5:35 p.m. for the report of a disturbance. As a result of the investigation, a man was taken into custody without incident and charged with simple assault.
At approximately 1 p.m. police received the report of an assault between coworkers that occurred at a business in Newtown Township. As a result of the investigation, a man was charged with simple assault and harassment.
A Newtown Township resident contacted police around 1 p.m. to report fraudulent activity involving identity theft and unauthorized bank accounts being created with her personal information. The investigation is ongoing.
October 5
The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail in the area of Washington Avenue and Elm Avenue in Newtown Borough. The unit is made up of officers from Newtown Township, Newtown Borough, and Upper Makefield. During the detail, 10 trucks were stopped and inspected and three citations and six warnings were issued for violations.
