NEWTOWN, PA – “Friday Night Jazz” returns to the historic Newtown Theatre on Friday, July 8 when the Keith Chasin Quintet presents “The Music of Bobby Timmons.” The evening begins at 8 p.m.

Timmons, a Philadelphia jazz pianist and composer, was a pioneer of soul-jazz in the 1950s and 60s. With songs like “Moanin” and “This Here,” he brought “Philly Soul” into the jazz tradition, cementing his legacy as one of history’s most soulful jazz pianists. Timmons passed away in 1974 at age 38.

Chasin is a Philadelphia-based pianist, arranger and composer who has performed at numerous venues locally and around the U.S., including the Kimmel Center, Birdland, and The Appel Room at Lincoln Center. His original music can be heard locally on WRTI and WHYY, and he was featured on WHYY’s House Concert Series in 2021.
