GNEC Honors Two Council Rock North Students in 2nd Quarter 2017

Joshua Bedard received GNEC's Student Of the Month award and Rosie Lynn Marasigan received the ACE award

The Greater Newtown Exchange Club (GNEC) honored two Council Rock North High School seniors with coveted GNEC awards during the Club’s second quarter meetings.

Joshua Bedard was GNEC’s Student of the Month for May. In addition to being an honor roll student, Bedard has taken part in numerous community activities including volunteering at camps, mentoring Council Rock North freshmen (Rock Ambassadors) and mentoring and volunteering at Math Nights at Newtown Elementary School. Bedard received Distinguished Honor Roll status through all four years of high school and was Council Rock North Student of the Month in September of 2016. He was also inducted into the National Honor Society and was selected to apply for the Prudential Spirt of the Community scholarship. Bedard’s future plans include going into business, making a difference in life and the people around him and making his community a better place. Friends, family, character and values are most important in his life. He’s considering college at either Seton Hall or Villanova but hasn’t made a decision yet.

Rosie Lynn Marasigan received GNEC’s ACE award at a May 18th meeting. Marasigan moved here from Brooklyn in 2015. She was raised by a single mother who passed away after a long illness and was then cared for by her mother’s best friend. She is also working on rebuilding a relationship with her biological father. In the midst of these family struggles, Marasigan has been able to keep up with her school work and become involved in a number of after school activities including singing in the Symphonic Choir, volunteering at the Wrightstown Library and working part time at Jules Pizza in Newtown to raise money for college. All this while pursuing a challenging college prep curriculum, including accelerated and honors courses and retaining an impressive 3.78 GPA. Her musical talents led to a recent induction into the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Marasigan plans to study psychology at college toward working with young children as an elementary school teacher. She has accepted an offer from SUNY Purchase Conservatory in New York.
