NEWTOWN, PA — The Newtown Rotary Club will tee-off for Pickering Manor on Monday with its largest fundraiser of the year at the Trenton County Club.

The annual Pickering Manor Golf Outing - organized by Pickering Manor and facilitated by the Rotary Club - has raised thousands of dollars over the years for the nonprofit retirement community.

This year’s golf outing, which tees off on Monday, June 10 at the Trenton Country Club on Sullivan Way in West Trenton, New Jersey, will help fund the purchase of a new HVAC system for the main house.

The outing begins with a 10 a.m. shotgun start “so you’ll be home by 5 p.m.,” said golf outing committee co-chair Anthony Petsis. “We will have great prizes. Anyone who has played in it before or have had dinner at the Trenton Country Club, it’s a treat.”

The outing includes breakfast, golf, lunch, cocktails, a silent auction and prizes. The day begins with registration and a full breakfast at 8:30 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 10 a.m., cocktails, lunch, a silent auction at 2 p.m., and awards at 3 p.m.

"One of the unique things about this event. We know not everyone is a pro golfer so what we do is we make sure that everyone who plays gets a very nice entry prize," said Petsis. "It could be a nice golf shirt, a nice pair of shorts, golf balls, a putter. A lot of different options."

The cost is $1400 per foursome, which includes greens fees, cart, cocktails and meals. The cost is $40 for breakfast only and $80 for lunch only. To register and for more information, click here.

The club recently presented its largest check to date to Pickering Manor with a donation of $29,000 to the nonprofit, community-run senior living facility.

Club president Mick Petrucci joined golf committee chairs Tony Petsis and Paul Salvatore and members of the committee in presenting a check to Pickering’s executive director, David Woodhead, during a special luncheon hosted by Pickering Manor.

The club raised the money during its 2023 golf outing. The outing is the club’s biggest fundraiser of the year and earmarks the proceeds exclusively to Pickering, a nonprofit retirement community owned and operated by the community.

“It is an absolute pleasure and honor to help such a wonderful organization such as Pickering Manor, which is a staple in our community. We’re just proud to be involved and to support their efforts,” said Petrucci.

"We're also blessed to have the event at the Trenton Country Club. It is one of the premier golf courses in the region so a lot of people come just so they can play on that course because it is spectacular," said Petrucci.

Over the past 30 years, the club has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Pickering, which provides independent living, personal care, rehabilitation, skilled nursing and memory care options to its clients.

This year’s check for $29,000 supported renovations at the main house into the "Club at Pickering Manor," a social gathering place for its independent living residents, according to Woodhead.

“Our goal is to beat that number with this year’s golf outing,” said Salvatore. “And I think we can do it. We are headed in the right direction. We need sponsors. We need golfers, we need prizes and we need hole sponsors.”

“When you see that $29,000 number that means a heck of a lot more than what you think,” added Petsis. “That’s a credit to the club. And I’m just amazed at the response we get not just from the club, but from the community.”

Petsis also praised Pickering Manor for its service and dedication to the people of Newtown and beyond. “When I think of Pickering I think of Newtown and all the history and the families who have built it over the years. Just the name Pickering. That's a big name in Newtown. And people like Sid Yates and Marge Torongo. This is Newtown.

"Pickering is the number one retirement home in this area. And that is a big deal. And that happens because of community involvement, community support, great staff and great leaders. Here’s our chance to shine and do something really nice for Pickering Manor,” he said of the golf outing.

To thank the club for its ongoing support, Pickering’s staff treated club members to a complimentary luncheon.

“It is truly our honor and our pleasure to say thank you to all of you,” said Woodhead. “I never lose sight of the fact that we have been and continue to be the sole recipient of this golf outing. We thank you for making Pickering a priority.”

Added Woodhead, “Over the years, what you have contributed to us and the things we have been able to do with it, has so improved the lives of our residents.”

Previous donations have benefited the manor’s memory care wing and have purchased a “Big Sky” window for its dedicated memory care unit.
