Health and Fitness Fair to Feature Classes, Seminars, and Fun
See celebrity demos, take free classes, sample healthy food and much more this Saturday and Sunday from noon until 5 p.m. at the Newtown Athletic Club.
Looking for a family-friendly activity this weekend? The Live Well Health and Fitness Fair may be right up your alley. It's being held at the Newtown Athletic Club on Saturday and Sunday (April 16 and 17) from noon until 5 p.m.
Now in its second year (last year it was called the Bucks County Health and Fitness Fair), the event will have a carnival-like atmosphere, featuring over 75 booths, exhibits and activities centered around healthy living at every age, organizers said.
“We want to show people that getting healthy and fit is fun, not a chore,” said Traci Browne, event producer for Live Well Expos. “It’s not about running a marathon -- you can walk your dog or go in the garden.”
Speaking of gardening, You Bet Your Garden radio host Mike McGrath will speak and answer gardening questions at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Kids can enjoy tie-dying, games, crafts, face painting, and other kid-centric activities.
To help get your blood pumping, the Newtown Athletic Club will offer free classes including yoga, Pilates and zumba. There will also be a disc golf course, soccer shootout and Wii tournaments -- plus a chance to win a Wii fit.
After all that exercise, you can sit back and relax in seminars, workshops and cooking demos, or restore your energy at the healthy food court. Fair sponsor Aria Health will offer 10 free health screenings both days from 1 to 4 p.m. And this is just a taste of what’s on the agenda -- for a full schedule of activities visit www.LiveWellFitFair.com.
“I’m so excited about the effort that our vendors are putting into this event; they’re really planning fun stuff for people to do,” said Browne. “This will be a very active event, not just a room filled with vendors and brochures.”
Although admission to the Live Well Health and Fitness Fair is free, attendees are encouraged to donate $10 per family to benefit Dragonfly Forest, a not-for-profit, overnight summer camp for children with serious illnesses and disorders.
“We chose Dragonfly Forest because we wanted to work with a nonprofit that was health and fitness related,” Browne said. “We spent a day at their summer camp. You’d never know the kids aren’t perfectly healthy when you watch them having fun and doing regular kid stuff.”
The Live Well Health and Fitness Fair partnered with local CBS 3 and CW Philly to promote the event. Look for the CBS/CW Crew, Kharisma and Vittoria on-site, along with medical reporter Stephanie Stahl.
