Newtown Township Police Investigating Job Scam, Retail Theft
The Newtown Township Police Department reports the following incidents and arrest.
NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The Newtown Township Police Department reports the following incidents and arrests:
June 24
- At approximately 5 a.m. police were dispatched to Homewood Suites for the report of a disturbance. As a result of the investigation, one subject was taken into custody, processed, and arraigned on charges of criminal trespassing, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
- Police were dispatched to a Newtown Township residence around 9:15 p.m. for the report of a theft from a vehicle. The vehicle had been unlocked and parked in the residence’s driveway when the theft occurred. The total value of loss was $25. Police remind everyone to remove keys and valuables and lock their cars.
June 28
- At approximately 9:15 a.m. police were dispatched to a Newtown Township residence for the report of a disturbance. As a result of the investigation, one subject was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant out of the Bucks County Sheriff’s Department. The subject was processed and transported without incident and was released to the Sheriff’s Department.
- At approximately 11 a.m. a Newtown Township resident contacted police to report two stolen credit cards and several fraudulent transactions. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
- At approximately 11:30 a.m. police were notified of a retail theft that occurred at McCaffrey’s Food Market earlier that morning. The total value of loss was $32.
June 29
- The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail in the area of Durham Road and Fox Hill Drive in Wrightstown Township. The unit is made up of officers from this department, the Newtown Borough Police Department, and the Upper Makefield Township Police Department. During the detail, 14 trucks were stopped and inspected. Five citations were issued as a result of violations that were found.
June 30
- A Newtown Township resident contacted police around 11:15 a.m. to report an unemployment fraud. The bank involved investigated and resolved the matter.
- At approximately 1:45 p.m. a Newtown Township resident contacted police to report an employment scam. The resident is a new college student who had applied for a job position online. He was offered the position via email and was instructed to deposit two checks into his bank account. The bank flagged the first check as fraudulent when the resident went to deposit it and instructed the resident to report the scam to the police department. Police advised the resident to cease all communication with the fraudsters and to shred any additional fraudulent checks that he may receive.
