Ice House Partners With Borscht Belt To Release New Gelati Flavor
The unique new flavor is designed to help "beet" the heat of summer with a "nice, refreshing" taste and "earthy flavor."

NEWTOWN, PA — Here’s a gelati flavor that you don’t see on the menu every day.
For a limited time only, the Yardley and Newtown Ice Houses will be offering Borscht Beet Gelati, a new summertime flavor being offered through a partnership with the Borscht Belt of Newtown.
Before you discount the flavor, read the words of Chef Nick Liberato of the Borscht Belt who partnered with the ice house owner Jackie McGonigal in the development of its newest refreshing treat created to help "beet" the heat of summer.

“It actually has a really nice light refreshing, earthy flavor of beets," said Chef Liberato. "When we put it in the machine, it certainly added a creaminess to the texture and the flavor is surprisingly smooth and sweet.”
Since they introduced it on Facebook, Liberato said a lot of people have been inquiring about the flavor and even questioning and wondering what it tastes like.

“That’s exactly why I chose this particular flavor because it would raise a question and it’s something that has not been done,” he said.
Chef Liberato said initially he pitched three different ideas to the ice house. “We decided to move forward with the beet because it’s something that has not been done before or anything that we’ve seen in the area.”
The chef adds, “We have not seen a beet water ice with vanilla soft serve. The combination fits perfect and definitely cools you down on a hot day.”

Chef Liberato said partnering with the ice house brings back memories of growing up in Yardley and buying water ice at the Ice House on South Main Street.
“I have been coming to the Ice House since I was 16 years old so this collaboration was very important to me,” he said. “We talked about doing a few different flavors, but I thought this one was the only fit. We created something that would stand out at the ice house. Definitely make your way over to the Yardley and Newtown Ice House to give it a try!"
