NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — KO Restaurant, which has been serving classic and modern Korean dishes for the past decade in Newtown, is closing its doors.

In a Facebook posting on Wednesday, the owners announced that KO will serve its last meals on Sunday, Sept. 3 after deciding not to renew its lease at the Village at Newtown Shopping Center.

“We’ve been honored to serve Newtown the last 10 years. It’s been a wild ride and we’re sad to see it end. Our lease is ending and unfortunately we will not be renewing,” they wrote.

The restaurant owners also own and operate Oishi in Newtown and Omiza in Doylestown, which will not be affected by the closing.

“This space holds a lot of memories as it was the original Oishi back in 1999 and this shopping center has changed ownership and evolved since," said the Facebook posting. "Anyone remember Zainy Brainy?" they asked.

'We had front row seats to watching Newtown grow as well as seeing your children go off and graduate, get jobs, get married, and come back with car seats in tow," the post continues. "We celebrated big achievements together as well as mourned loved ones we lost. We want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts. It was an honor,” they wrote.

The staff at KO will be retained and relocated to Oishi in Newtown and Omiza in Doylestown to better serve its patrons. "We have new plans, menu updates, and a new look at Oishi in the works. We hope to see you there in the future.”

More than 200 people had responded to the post by Wednesday evening with more than 70 comments had been posted.

“I’ve been a customer since the original Oishi was one store front in the KO location,” writes Evan. “Sorry to hear but looking forward to improvements at Oishi. Would love to see more changes to your menu now that you are consolidating to one Newtown location, and would love to see the sushi bar re-open at Oishi.”

Pooja wrote, “Oh no. We are so sad to see you go. This has been our family’s go to place since we’ve been in Newtown. A bao bun fix and bulgogi platter always satisfy and my daughter and in-laws also love the noodles. We are very sad by your loss to this community, and hope you will add some of the staple menu items to Oishi’s menu to continue the tastes we love. We wish all of you the best always.”

Another wrote, “We loved KO!! It was one of the few places we could eat out with my fussy toddler. He would demolish a plate of yakisoba noodles effortlessly!! One of our favorite weeknight dinners in the area. Good luck in all future endeavors!!”
