Latest Blizzard Updates For Newtown: Schools Closed, Local Snow Emergencies Declared

Both Newtown Township and Newtown Borough are under a snow emergency due to the incoming storm. Council Rock Schools will be closed Tuesday.

The snow emergency in Newtown Township began at 4 p.m. and goes through Tuesday at 4 p.m. Cars cannot be parked on township streets.

In Newtown Borough, the snow emergency began at 6 p.m. Borough residents must move their cars from the street. All sidewalks in the borough must be cleared within eight hours of the end of the snowfall.

Council Rock Schools have already notified students that schools will be closed Tuesday. The status of the school schedule for Wednesday will be communicated to the community as soon as a decision is made.

Forecasters have issued a Blizzard Warning across much of Eastern Pennsylvania, including Bucks County. The Blizzard Warning goes from 8 p.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Tuesday. Snow accumulation of 12 to 16 inches of snow is expected, along with gusty winds and reduced visibility, the National Weather Service predicts.

Snow is expected to begin between 10 p.m. and midnight and will become heavy at times, with snowfall rates of three to four inches per hour for several hours Tuesday morning. "Snow may mix with sleet for several hours Tuesday morning which could reduce overall amounts," the NWS said.
