I had planned to object to one of your recent disappointing votes which displayed not only an antagonism to women’s rights and to the universal principle of compassion to the hungry and sick, but also to the fundamentally American principle of the separation of church and state, but I did not want to be distracted by the cataclysmic revelation that the New York Times revealed to the American people on January 11th, 2019.

I of course also did not want to be distracted, as had so many of the blind Republican followers of the Distracter-in-Chief, by the manufactured “crisis” at the southern border because it was obvious that such a ruse was created only in desperation to hide.the ever mounting investigative walls closing in on this decadent presidency.

However, it does pain me to be distracted from the real humanitarian emergencies created by this narcissistic unempathetic president who has created unbearable living conditions for innocent asylum seekers at our southern border as well as for the over 800,000 dedicated federal employees who wonder when they will see their next paycheck. And it also pains me to be distracted from the innumerable valuable government services that will not be performed for the American people because of this thoughtless and reckless Trump shutdown. (At the every least though - yes, a very low bar indeed for you Republican leaders - ,you should be urging your colleagues in the Senate to reopen the United States government immediately with a veto-proof majority. Consider this: wouldn’t a foreign adversary delight in the shutting down of our government? Would your Party want to be continuing to be complicit in that nation-attacking initiative?)

But I don’t want to focus on these threats today either, because a far greater and historic threat has just been uncovered that will no doubt prove to be one of the gravest threats to our democracy in its history.

“WASHINGTON — In the days after President Trump fired James B. Comey as F.B.I. director, law enforcement officials became so concerned by the president’s behavior that they began investigating whether he had been working on behalf of Russia against American interests, according to former law enforcement officials and others familiar with the investigation.
The inquiry carried explosive implications. Counterintelligence investigators had to consider whether the president’s own actions constituted a possible threat to national security. Agents also sought to determine whether Mr. Trump was knowingly working for Russia or had unwittingly fallen under Moscow’s influence.”

Yes, the man whom you, your Republican Party and our Russian adversary helped install to be our president, our commander-in-chief, the leader of the free world, had acted in such an unpatriotic manner to warrant your former colleagues in the FBI to consider whether he had fallen under the power of our foreign adversary.

That fact is astounding. And that fact is a fact from which those who care deeply about the fate of the American democracy should not be distracted.

You yourself in an NPR interview after this complicit president spoke with his Russian benefactor in Helsinki said “the president was manipulated by Vladimir Putin and he was sickened by the exchange between Trump and Putin." But I am afraid that since Helsinki, you and other leaders in your Party have foolishly succumbed to distractions and have done nothing to remedy this dire situation, and in fact, have even empowered this president all the more in his reckless and dangerous behavior.

For the biggest crisis looming, the biggest national emergency facing all true patriots after January 11, 2019, is not any of the ones manufactured’ by this colluding and conspiring president, but is his very presidency itself. He is truly unfit to protect and defend our country and constitution.

So I urge you not to be distracted, but instead to focus on this national priority. Convince your Republican leaders in the House and the Senate about the unprecedented urgency of the threat to our democracy that inhabits the White House. Prepare for impeachment hearings in the House and a conviction in the Senate. For a man whose allegiance is to himself and our strongest foreign adversary should not remain as president any longer. Don’t be distracted by petty political point-scoring legislation, but remain focused on what needs to be done to save our country from a traitor who would destroy the precious democracy all true Americans cherish and for which many of our brave veterans have died. The time is now, not for cowardly idle talk, but for brave patriotic action.
