Man Charged With Thefts From CVS, Ace Hardware: Newtown Twp PD

A Newtown painter accused earlier this week of stealing guns from a customer's home has now been charged in connection with 2 retail thefts.

A Newtown painter accused earlier this week of stealing guns from a customer's home has been charged in connection with retail thefts at two local businesses.

According to Newtown Township Police, Philip Abruzzese, 32, has been charged in connection with thefts in February from Ace Hardware in Newtown and the CVS in Wrightstown. Abruzzese was arraigned Friday by Magisterial District Justice Michael Pertucci.

In the Feb. 7 theft at Ace Hardware, battery packs and Dewalt and Toro cordless drills were among the items stolen. It is not clear what was allegedly taken from CVS.

Abruzzese is facing several counts of retail theft and receiving stolen property in connection with the charges in Newtown Township. Abruzzese was released on an unsecured bail of $50,000.

The latest charges are in addition to those filed earlier this week by Buckingham Township Police, who allege Abruzzese stole firearms and other items while working for a customer in that municipality. Abruzzese is facing charges of theft by unlawful taking, theft of a firearm and receiving stolen property in that case.

Abruzzese, an employee of Abruzzese Painting, gained access to the victim's home while working for the painting company, authorities said.
