Bucks County Man Tells Mother 'I Love You,' Kills Father With Sword: Police

Eli Goodrich, 26, has been charged with criminal homicide and possessing an instrument of crime in the killing of Alan Goodrich.

A 26-year-old man was arraigned early Wednesday on charges he fatally stabbed his father with a sword at their Bucks County home Tuesday.

Eli Goodrich has been charged with criminal homicide and possessing an instrument of crime in the killing of Alan Goodrich, 67. The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on Trappe Lane in Langhorne, police said.

He is confined to Bucks County Jail and has been denied bail.

According to reports, Goodrich had an argument with his father earlier in the day, when he told him: “You are not going to control my mind anymore. I have to kill you,” the Bucks County Courier Times reported.

He then reportedly took the family dog for a walk around the Maple Point development and when he returned, told his mother he loved her. He left the room and she then heard the altercation between her son and husband, the Courier Times reported.

When she entered the room she saw a bloodied sword and her wounded husband, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. She called 911 and Eli Goodrich was taken into custody without incident shortly after, the Inquirer said.

Goodrich’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 13.

The Bucks County Courier Times reports that Alan Goodrich was a retired Neshaminy School District English teacher.
