Man Surrenders To Police After Standoff In Newtown Township

The incident took place in the 300 block of West Hanover Street in Newtown Crossing.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — A man surrendered to police Friday morning after a several hour standoff in the Newtown Crossing development.

The incident took place in the 300 block of West Hanover Street.

Police responded to a mental health warrant assist for a man who was reportedly armed with a shotgun and refused commands to exit the property.

The additional occupants of the home were evacuated and a decision was made by law enforcement to initiate a “barricade subject” protocol, where numerous agencies from the Bucks County South-Central Emergency Response Team responded to the scene.

Richboro Road was closed from Mill Pond to St Leonard’s Road and adjoining properties were evacuated for the safety of the public.

After several hours of negotiations, police said the man surrendered to police and was
transported to a medical facility for treatment. Criminal charges are pending.

There were no reported injuries to the offender, the public or to the police officers.
