Man, Woman Removed From BCCC Campus After Causing Disturbance With "Offensive Messages"​

Newtown Township Police and the Bucks County DA's Office are reviewing the incident, police said.

A man and woman were removed from the Newtown campus of Bucks County Community College Thursday afternoon after causing a disturbance among the college's community, according to BCCC officials and Newtown Township Police.

Bucks County Community College President Dr. Stephanie Shanblatt said a man and a woman, neither of whom are students at the college, were on campus Thursday wearing cloths and displaying a posted with offensive messages.

Photos from BCCC students shared online show the clothing and signs as being religious, listing groups of people that will be doomed to hell if they do not obey Jesus. The groups on the signs and clothing are described using insensitive language.

Police were called to the school and found the two people with the male demonstrating and the female videotaping the "demonstration," police said.

Police said crowd of students had gathered around the two to protest the demonstration, which led to a student damaging the used in the demonstration.

Police said no injuries were reported in the incident, which is being investigated by Newtown Township Police and is being reviewed by the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.

"Let me state in the strongest terms that Bucks County Community College is an academic institution that values individual expression," Shanblatt said. "We embrace the diversity of our student body, faculty and staff, our county and our country. We recognize the fact that people have differing views, and welcome opinions expressed in an atmosphere of mutual respect."

Shanblatt thanked the college's Safety and Security staff and Newtown Township Police for their professionalism and service in handling Thursday's incident.
