In Matchup Between Trump And Phillie Phanatic, The Mascot Wins: Poll

Who is more qualified to be president: Donald Trump or the Phillie Phanatic?

Who is more qualified to be president: Donald Trump or the Phillie Phanatic?

The answer, according to Pennsylvania residents polled this month, doesn't bode well for the Republican presidential nominee.

According to a Public Policy Polling poll, the neon green, furry mascot for the Philadelphia Phillies, whose skill set includes launching concessions from a cannon, taunting opposing teams with gyrations and doing "The Phanatic Dance," has a better resume for the job than the billionaire-businessman-turned-politician whose hair is also a signature trait.

If the poll, taken of 1,1,06 registered voters between June 3 and 5, is accurate, it looks like The Donald will need his own mascot in the Keystone State to drum up the support he needs to pull out a big win.

While the poll shows a statistical tie in a head-to-head matchup against Democrat Hillary Clinton, who secured the nomination this week after wins in New Jersey and California, he loses 45-41 to a "generic" Democratic candidate. Against Bernie Sanders, who came up short for the nomination, Trump loses 51-39, according to the poll.

The poll reveals just 34 percent of voters see Trump favorably and 59 percent have a negative opinion of him.

So should Clinton consider the long-beaked, playful creature as a running mate?

That might not help her win over Sanders supporters, which, the poll shows, is her biggest stumbling block in the Keystone State as of now.

“The biggest question in the Presidential race at this point is whether hesitant Bernie Sanders fans are going to get behind Hillary Clinton or not,” said Dean Debnam, president of Public Policy Polling. “In Pennsylvania if the answer to that question is yes, Clinton will be a strong favorite in the state. If the answer to that question is no, the state will be a toss up.”

No word if the Phanatic is considering a third-party run in the interim.
