On Tuesday, Newtown Borough Council was set to vote on a zoning ordinance that would oversee where medical marijuana dispensaries can be located. However, if passed, the ordinance would not apply to this pending application, the Advance report said.

The application for a dispensary is one of four that are currently pending in Bucks County. There are two applications for dispensaries in Doylestown, and one in Bristol, state documents show.

The Medical Marijuana Program was signed into law by Governor Tom Wolf on April 17, 2016. It offers medical marijuana to Pennsylvania patients who are under a practitioner’s care for the treatment of a serious medical condition as defined by the Medical Marijuana Law.

In Bucks County, there are two dispensaries currently operating. One is in Bristol, and the other is in Sellersville.

According to the most recent data from the state, more than 52,000 patients in Pennsylvania have registered to participate in the medical marijuana program. Of those, more than 30,000 have received their identification cards and are able to visit a dispensary to purchase medical marijuana, information from the state said.

More than 1,000 physicians have registered for the program and, of those, more than 700 have been approved as practitioners. A list of approved practitioners can be found here.
