Men Seen Fishing Mail From Collection Box At The Newtown Post Office
Anyone who dropped mail at the outside collection box on or around Saturday, Oct. 8 are urged to monitor their accounts for fraud.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Anyone who dropped their mail off at the outside collection box at the Newtown Post Office on or around Saturday, Oct. 8 are being urged to monitor their bank statements for any fraudulent activity.
On Saturday, Oct. 8 at 11 p.m., police responded to the Newtown Post Office at 20 Terry Drive for the report of a suspicious occurrence. A witness told police that two men were in the parking lot fishing mail from an outside collection box.
Police said they located a suspect vehicle, which fled the scene. An investigation is ongoing.

Residents using these mail collection boxes on or around October 8 are encouraged to monitor their bank statements for any fraudulent activity, police said. Criminals have been known to forge personal or business checks stolen from these mail boxes, police said.
Any suspicious or fraudulent activity should be reported to police or to the United States Postal Inspection Service.

With a rash of mail thefts taking place at outside mail collection containers, police said the safest way to mail letters and bills is to drop them off inside a designated postal facility.
