WRIGHTSTOWN, PA — The Middletown Grange Fair opened its five-day run on Wednesday continuing a tradition dating back to 1948.

“We’re looking forward to another great fair,” said fair director Amber Dilanni, a fourth-generation Grange Fair volunteer. “You’ll not only enjoy a nice break from the everyday hustle and bustle, but also see and experience what agriculture looks like in Bucks County.”

This year’s fair runs through Sunday, August 18 at the fairgrounds on Penns Park Road in Wrightstown where thousands are expected to experience Bucks County’s premier agricultural fair over its five-day run. Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The always competitive hot dog pig races are back and running. The popular tractor parade is again making its rounds on Thursday and Friday at 6:30 p.m., Saturday at 4:30 p.m., and on Sunday at 4 p.m. And the exhibition barns are again filled with thousands of judged entries from baked goods to vegetables, photography and quilts.

At the heart of the fair are its many 4-H raised animals and shows. And this year’s fair will not disappoint, said organizers.

More than 300 4-H-raised animals, from bleating sheep and squealing pigs to mooing cows, are again filling the fairground barns with the sounds of the farm. The schedule is again packed with shows and competitions taking place throughout the fair's five days.

The fair opened on Wednesday with the rabbit and cavy show, 4-H poultry show (modified), alpaca and llama show, and the 4-H market and hog show. Thursday brings the goat show, the 4-H Stockman’s Contest, and the Raymond C. & Rachel H. Gross 4-H Dairy Judging Contest. Friday spotlights the Holstein and Sheep Shows; Saturday features the 4-H Dairy and Beef Cattle Shows and the 4-H Market Hog Auction; and Sunday brings the Rabbit and Cavy Parade of Breeds.

Unfortunately, for the third year in a row, chickens, roosters, and other poultry won’t be making an appearance at the fair due to a continued Avian Flu caution. But members of the 4-H Poultry Club were on hand on Wednesday for a modified show.

Tractor pulls can be seen at different times throughout the fair.

Kicking off the fair's nightly entertainment schedule on Wednesday were student musicians from the Newtown School of Rock. They staged a "Battle of the Bands."

Other highlights include vocalist Mack Berry on Thursday afternoon and Aubrey Rey/Landrey from American Idol with Jimmy Mowery from The Voice on Thursday evening, country artist Frank Vieira on Friday night, Suns of Beaches (island sounds) on Saturday night, and the Kirko Band (rock, classic and modern rock) on Sunday afternoon.

Of course, no fair would be complete without its food options. This year's menu is headlined by the Grange Fair's annual chicken dinner to be served on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 3 to 8 p.m.

Other daily food offerings include hot dogs, hamburgers, pierogies, pizza and pasta, crepes, water ice, kettlecorn, barbecue, specialty coffees, corn dogs and lots more.

Admission to the fair is free, but there is a $20 fee per vehicle to park. Proceeds from the parking fee will benefit the Lingohocken Fire Company and Bucks County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 53.

Fair hours are Wednesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information about the fair, visit https://middletowngrangefair.org
