New Statue To Be Unveiled At Washington Crossing National Cemetery

UPPER MAKEFIELD, PA — An awe-inspiring statue of General George Washington, sculpted by Jennifer Frudakis-Petry, will be unveiled on Saturday, May 20 during ceremonies at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
"The impressive nine-foot bronze statue will stand tall as a tribute to the brave men and women who have served the nation," said Phillip Gaffney, a member of the Guardians of the National Cemetery, which is spearheading the project.

The base for the statue was designed by students from the Williamson College of the Trades in Media.
The statue itself was sculpted by Jennifer Frudakis-Petry, who has been commissioned to create monuments in Philadelphia and New Jersey as well as smaller works for museums, hospitals, and private collections. Her accomplishments are well-known in the art world.

The Laran Foundry in Chester was used to make the statue.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony, which begins at 11 a.m. at the cemetery located at 830 Highland Avenue, Newtown 18940-2902. The statue is sited on the grass peninsula on Freedom Circle between the exit of Committal Shelter No. 1 and the entrance to Committal Shelter No. 2.
The project is being paid for entirely from private donations. Donations in support of the statue can be made by visiting guardiansofthenationalcemetery.org.
Where to park
Enter through the main gate only. General parking will be located at Committal Shelter No. 1. Parking will be in reverse order from normal burial services. Enter through what would normally be the exit from the shelter. Handicapped parking will be available at Columbarium “B”. Golf cart transportation to the seating area for the dedication will be available from Columbarium B, if needed. Additional parking will be available along Freedom Circle (right-hand side of the street only), on the flagpole side of the circle. Parking will also be available in the Funeral Procession Lanes at the Administration Building. Please follow directions from parking assistants. This will be a rain or shine event.
