New Council Rock Redistricting Maps Released
The new Council Rock redistricting proposal has been posted on the district's website.

NEWTOWN, PA — A new set of proposed redistricting maps has been posted to the Council Rock School District website. The maps, which include revised elementary boundaries and middle school boundaries, can be found by clicking here.
The maps were prepared after deliberations by the Council Rock redistricting committee, which is tasked with shifting students from several schools in an attempt to balance enrollment across the district. It is made up of two parent representatives from each building, three building administrators, and five central office administrators. According to the district, the committee studied enrollment projections, reviewed community feedback, examined housing information and analyzed building capacity.
"The proposed plan brings each school close to average capacity for each respective level, balances enrollment at the secondary level by shifting students from the south to the north, and eliminates elementary islands. The proposed plan shifts approximately 16.5 percent of elementary student," an email from Council Rock spokeswoman Susan O'Grady said.

This is the second proposal. The first proposal, which was released in January, drew outrage from many Northampton Township residents, who said redistricting will isolate their children from the community and divide neighborhoods.
This proposal still shifts a significant number of students from Northampton Township, a south feeding school, to Wrightstown Elementary School, a North feeding school.

A special meeting for a school board vote on redistricting plan has been tentatively set for Dec. 13.
