New Polling On Fitzpatrick-Wallace Race Shows Tight Contest

Election Day is less than a week away, and new polling data on the race for congress in Bucks County shows a very close contest.

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — Election Day is less than a week away, and new polling data on the race for congress in Bucks County shows a very close contest.

According to a new poll out by the New York Times/Sienna College, incumbent Republican Brian Fitzpatrick holds a statistically insignificant 1-point lead in the race against Democratic challenger Scott Wallace.

The poll, which was conducted between Oct. 26-29, has a margin of error of 4.7 percent. Pollsters who conducted the survey said they made 29,261 calls to residents of Pennsylvania's 1st District, and 502 people spoke with them.

"Each candidate’s total could easily be five points different if we polled everyone in the district. And having a small sample is only one possible source of error," according to the New York Times.

A previous New York Times poll conducted earlier in the month showed Wallace with a 7-point lead. That poll had a margin of error of 4.6 percent.

The race for the 1st district is one of many in Eastern Pennsylvania that is being watched closely by political pundits and pollsters. Area residents have been bombarded with radio advertising, mailers, and television ads.

Fitzpatrick's campaign is attempting to paint Wallace as a "dangerous" choice for Bucks County, while Wallace's campaign is pushing Fitzpatrick as a Trump backer whose agenda favors the rich.
