NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — AT&T Public Safety Scholarships are available to eligible students enrolled in the Bucks County Community College's Public Safety Training and Certificate program, including the Basic and Advanced Fire Academy courses.

The new scholarships, which are made possible thanks to a $20,000 grant from the AT&T Foundation, were announced during a special event at Bucks County Community College, featuring college leadership; federal, state and local officials; training center directors; and representatives from AT&T.

Bucks County Community College supports educational programs in the concentration areas of public safety operation and management, public safety certification, emergency management operations, and industrial safety. The college’s programs are designed to enhance First Responders’ ability to deliver life-saving services to the communities they serve.

The AT&T Foundation grant will support educational attainment and scholarships for students within the Bucks Basic and Bucks Advanced Fire Academy Programs. Students that complete this program can also use the national certifications towards classes in credit programs for Associate of Arts: Fire Science. The $20,000 grant will support scholarships for essential supplies for an estimated 99 students.

“We are extremely grateful to the AT&T Foundation for their generous support of the Bucks County Community College Public Safety and Fire School. As the College provides training and professional development for the County’s Fire Departments, these funds will go to help more volunteer fire fighters to realize their heart to serve through their educational pursuits at Bucks,” said Dr. Felicia L. Ganther, president, Bucks County Community College.

State Senator-Elect Frank Farry participated in the announcement. Farry is also a volunteer firefighter and chief of the Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company, and he serves on the college’s board of trustees.

“We are so proud of our friends and neighbors who are committed to protecting their communities – both as volunteer firefighters and paid personnel. This scholarship is not only an incentive to serve, it will help offset the costs to students. I’m glad that BCCC and AT&T teamed up on this program,” said Farry.

“At AT&T, we’ve been given the responsibility of building out the FirstNet® wireless broadband network built specifically for public safety in Pennsylvania and across the United States,” said David Kerr president, AT&T Pennsylvania. “We also want to do what we can to help inspire and prepare the next generation of first responders in Pennsylvania, which is why we created the AT&T Public Safety Scholarship program. We appreciate those who answer the call to serve their communities.”
