Newtown Arts Company Presents 'Damn Yankees'

NEWTOWN, PA — The Newtown Arts Company will present "Damn Yankees" this August at the Newtown Theatre. Performances are scheduled through Aug. 1- 7.

"Damn Yankees" is based on the novel "The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant" by Douglass Wallop. The Broadway mega-hit is the winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Here is a plot summary from the Newtown Arts Company:

Middle-aged baseball fanatic Joe Boyd (Greg Kopcho), trades his soul to the Devil, also known as Mr. Applegate (DJ Holcombe), for a chance to lead his favorite team to victory in the pennant race against the New York Yankees. As young baseball sensation Joe Hardy (Chris Neuman), he transforms the hapless Washington Senators into a winning team, only to realize the true worth of the life and wife (Cathy Liebars) he's left behind. Joe ultimately outsmarts Applegate, escapes the wiles of Lola (Olivia Schanbacher) and, as his former self, shepherds the Senators to the World Series.

Directors are Amelia Arrigo Ball and Danielle Ziemba, with music direction from Susan den Outer. Producers include Nancy Pickering, Jackie Tamburrino and Marcia Wittmann, and stage manager is Bobby Reiser.

Performances are scheduled for Aug. 1- 7: Thursday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m., plus Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m.
