Newtown Athletic Club Offers Free Memberships To Bucks County Police

NEWTOWN, PA — The owner of the Newtown Athletic Club announced a new initiative for Bucks County active police officers and their families: free memberships for this summer.

Jim Worthington, the NAC's owner, said he was inspired by a club community member, Christina Nelson, "who founded the Fuel the Force Program which provides free lunches to police officers throughout the county. This program is growing quickly and is supported by local restaurants,” said Worthington. “I thought if she could step up and support law enforcement, so could I.”

After attending a recent police banquet, Worthington said, he realized local officers and their families could benefit from an Athletic Club membership.

“Interacting with these brave men and women in blue, it occurred to me that a membership at the NAC could provide some much-needed recreation, relaxation and socialization as well as the chance to maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle,” he said.

There are 1,000 active police officers in Bucks County, the news release from the NAC said. Any officers and their families who are already NAC members can also receive free membership. This represents a $1.1 million donation, the NAC said.

“This is our way of thanking the men and women in blue for the dedication and sacrifice they make each and every day to keep our communities safe. Never shall we take them for granted and if enjoying the services and experiences we have to offer at the NAC gives them some respite from the duties they perform with such bravery, then this will be the success I hope for,” said Worthington.

The NAC's mission is “making lives better by creating the ultimate recreational, social and healthy lifestyle experience." The club offers a variety of health and fitness services.
