Newtown Borough Council Seeking Applicants for Vacancy

Newtown Borough Council is seeking applicants for a vacancy in Ward 1. A special meeting on Feb. 8 has been scheduled to review applications for the vacancy. That meeting starts at 5:30 p.m.

According to an announcement posted by the borough, applicants must meet the following qualifications:

• You must be a registered voter.
• You must be a resident of the borough.
• Councilors must have resided in the borough continuously for at least one year.
• To qualify as a voter, a person must be eighteen years of age and a resident of the election district. A person whose name appears on the district voting register but who is no longer a resident of the borough is not a lawfully registered elector.
• You must be able to serve through the end of December 2017.
