Newtown Borough Police Chief Reports Busy Month Of April

Tractor trailer strikes borough police car; resident cited for disorderly conduct; more thefts from the Wine & Spirits store.

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — Newtown Borough Police Chief Sabath reported a busy month in April with the department answering 197 calls for service, including a hit and run involving a borough police car, more thefts from the Wine & Spirits Store and a road rage incident that had a good ending.

Among the calls were several hit-and-runs, including a tractor trailer that struck a borough patrol car on State Street. “He said he didn’t know he had hit it, but video showed our car was shaking after he struck it,” said Chief Sabath.

The chief also reported a road rage incident. “A woman driving on I-295 was involved in a road rage. The individual followed her. She smartly came to our police department and as they saw her pull into the PD, they took off,” said the chief.

The chief also reported several disorderly persons calls, including a 58-year-old man from Newtown Borough who was cited for disorderly conduct outside of the Ice House and who was involved in another disorderly incident at the Temperance House.

The chief also reported several retail thefts from the Wine and Spirits store on South State Street. “We arrested a 44-year-old Bristol man for two of those thefts,” said the chief.

Police continue to investigate an oil spill in the parking lot of the Newtown Borough Hall. “We’re investigating that as an act of vandalism,” he reported.
