Newtown Boy Scout Troop 29 Wins 9th Saber
Troop 29 Boy Scouts took home the coveted West Point Invitational Scout Camporee saber for a ninth time.
Newtown’s Boy Scout Troop 29 took first place, and was awarded their unit’s ninth saber, at the Annual West Point Invitation Scout Camporee.
The weekend-long event, which is hosted by Scoutmasters’ Council, was attended by almost 7000 Girl Scouts, Boy Scout and Venturers. Participants competed in a variety of military and scouting-based activities such as land navigation, first aid, weapons safety and maintenance, zodiac boat race, fire building, military drill, and physical fitness.
Troop 29 earned 964 points out of the possible 1000.

“It is our goal. We work for months training at meetings. We work hard as a team and we wanted to continue Troop 29’s legacy with this 9th win,” Senior Patrol Leader Elijah Brown said.
