Newtown Bypass Drivers Play 'Frogger' As Lights Malfunction

A majority of the traffic lights on the Newtown Bypass malfunctioned Thursday. One Patch reader described it as playing Frogger.

Drivers in Newtown who took the Bypass Thursday morning may have gotten more than they bargained for — like the opportunity to play a life-sized version of Frogger, with a lot on the line.

The traffic lights on the Newtown Bypass from Route 95 to Buck Road malfunctioned due to an unknown issue, police announced around noon. All lights on that stretch of roadway were blinking due to the malfunction.

Authorities worked to fix the issue and the lights were operational a few hours later.

Meanwhile, police were urging residents to use "extreme caution when traveling" along the Bypass.

Many residents said driving on the Bypass while the lights were blinking was a scary and dangerous experience.
