Newtown Creek Coalition Holding Clean-Up Event

The Newtown Creek Coalition, in coordination with the Great American Clean-Up of Pennsylvania, will hold a creek clean-up event on Saturday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to noon.

"Volunteers are encouraged to participate in this community activity, which is held annually to preserve and protect one of Newtown's natural resources," the organization said in an event announcement.

"This clean-up event will focus on the area of Newtown Creek near the northeast corner of Washington Avenue and Sycamore Street," organizers said.

Volunteers will meet in the Sycamore Street parking lot of Meglio Pizzeria, located at the foot of the Washington Avenue Bridge. Organizers ask volunteers not to park in the restaurant parking lot.

Volunteers should wear work clothes and sturdy shoes or boots. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
