One of its first projects, which it coordinated with the Newtown Historic Association, was the purchase and hanging of new banners on State Street advertising upcoming town events and displaying its mission, “Cherish our history to preserve our future.”

The Newtown Experience will also be taking over the organization of the town’s annual holiday tree lighting ceremony to be held on Friday, Dec. 2 in the parking lot next to the fire station on Washington Avenue. The event begins at 6 with the tree lighting at 7 p.m.

Kathy Buczek, proprietress at the Temperance House, and Mark Gatta, of Opus Elite Real Estate, attended borough council’s work session meeting to formally introduce the organization and to seek council’s participation, support and partnership.

“We’d just like to bring everyone together with one voice to promote and enhance the borough,” said Buczek. “We are looking for you and the community to help us along. We don’t know everything. We want to do this together.”

Gatta said what they’re hoping to do is to replicate the success grassroots groups have had in nearby towns, like Bristol Borough where Raising the Bar has brought residents, government, nonprofit organizations and the business community together under one banner to enhance and to promote the town.

“We chose to begin with the historical association because they are a staple and have been around forever,” said Buczek. “We are basically working right now to beautify and bring Newtown to what we all want,” she said.

One of its initial projects was Music on the Street, a summer long outdoor concert series held on South State Street in front of Opus Elite.

The Temperance House is located at 5 South State Street, Newtown 18940.
