Newtown Gallery Expands Access To Art Beyond Its Walls

NEWTOWN, PA — ArtWRKD is expanding the ways the community can experience, discover and collect original art with the launch of its online gallery and new curator appointment offering, creating greater access to artists, exhibitions and the stories behind the work.

As the way people discover and purchase art continues to evolve, ArtWRKD is bringing its curatorial experience beyond the walls of its Newtown exhibition space. The new ArtWRKD Online Gallery allows collectors and art lovers to explore and purchase original artwork online, including work from current exhibitions as well as work by ArtWRKD’s represented artists.

The platform provides another important avenue for the Newtown gallery to support local and regional artists, giving their work greater visibility while making collecting original art more approachable and accessible.

“People no longer need to feel that collecting art requires knowing the right gallery, understanding the right language, or even walking through the door,” says Ashara Shapiro, founder and curator of ArtWRKD. “Our goal has always been to create connection between artists and the people who respond to their work. The online gallery gives us another way to make that connection happen.”

Art Beyond The Gallery Walls

The growth of online art purchasing has changed how collectors encounter artists and build their collections. ArtWRKD’s online platform will bring the gallery’s curatorial point of view into that evolving landscape while maintaining something essential: a connection to the artist, the work and the story behind it.

Visitors can explore work on their own time, revisit pieces they experienced in the gallery and discover artists even when they cannot visit ArtWRKD in person.

For participating artists, the platform extends the life and reach of an exhibition and creates another opportunity for their work to be seen and collected.

For visitors looking for a deeper experience, ArtWRKD is also introducing curator appointments.

Guests may schedule a personal appointment with the exhibition curator to walk through the current show, discuss individual artists and works, learn more about the curatorial vision behind the exhibition, and ask questions in a relaxed, one-on-one setting.

The appointments are designed for everyone, from experienced collectors to someone considering purchasing their very first piece of original art.

"There is no expectation that a visitor arrive with knowledge of art or an intention to purchase," said Shapiro. "The experience is an invitation to look more closely, ask questions and understand what they are seeing."

For those interested in collecting, the curator can also help identify work that resonates personally, discuss scale and placement, and guide visitors through the process of purchasing original artwork.
