Newtown Library Company Hosting Children's Summer Reading Programs

The programs are geared towards ages 2-14 and include a Summer Book Club and a Summer Reading Challenge.

The Newtown Library Company has announced a line-up of children's summer reading programs. The programs are geared towards ages 2-14 and include a Summer Book Club and a Summer Reading Challenge.

Separate reading challenges are available for children ages 5 and under, and ages 6 and over, the library said.

  • The Summer Book Club, for girls and boys aged 8-14, will kick-off June 15 at 7pm where attendees can meet Lauren Magaziner, author of the Pilfer Academy, find out about upcoming books and book clubs, purchase summer reading titles and learn more about the Library’s summer reading incentives. Discussions about the summer reading selections will be held at the Library at 7pm on July 13 for Pilfer Academy by Lauren Magaziner; August 3 for Booked by Kwami Alexander and August 17 for The Trial by Jen Bryant.
  • The Newtown Library Companies Summer Reading Challenge will take place between June 13 and August 19. Participants will be divided by age, into either picture books or chapter book reading groups, with the minimum goal being to have younger children read 1 picture book a night and older children read 20 minutes a night. The Library will provide participating children with 10 line reading logs that once completed can be turned in to track progress and receive a small prize.
