Newtown Little League Team Takes Section 6 Title

The Council Rock Newtown 12s are packing their bags and heading to State College as one of eight teams vying for a spot to be named Pennsylvania's best in little league.

The Newtown team displayed solid pitching, fielding and hitting throughout the double elimination Section 6 Tournament to advance to the next level.  Newtown reached the final game after defeating Valley West 10-0 on Saturday and pounding Pennridge 11-1 on Sunday. 

Pennridge fought its way to the final game through the losers bracket to face Newtown for the championship game.

In the championship game, Council Rock Newtown erased an early 1-0 deficit with three runs in the second inning to take control. 

Winning pitcher Jared Schram held Pennridge to one run for more than five innings, with a total of nine strikeouts and only allowing four hits.  Seumus Crosset came in and induced a game-ending pop fly to centerfielder Pat Bartlett to nail the 7-1 victory. 

Hitting was led by J. Alex Miller, who went 2-3 with a home run and RBI single.  Also coming through for Newtown with their bats were Zac Deegan (2-2), Pat Bartlett (2-3) and Brian Kane (1-2), who hit a key sacrifice fly deep to the warning track. 

The team is headed to State College in an attempt to capture the State title. 

A victory in State College would send the All-Stars to Bristol, Conn. for a chance to win the Mid-Atlantic Region title.  A win in Connecticut provides the boys with a chance to represent Pennsylvania in the Little League World Series.
