Newtown Man Charged With Aggravated Assault On a Police Officer

A Newtown man has been arrested for aggravated assault on a police officer after he kicked an officer, police say.

A Newtown Township man has been arrested for aggravated assault on a police officer after he kicked an officer during an incident on July 3, police say.

According to police, officers were dispatched to Penn Oak Trail around 1:45 p.m. that day for a report of a suspicious car blocking a resident's driveway.

When an officer arrived, he saw a man, later identified as 64-year-old Eugene Black, slumped over in the driver’s seat. The keys were in the ignition and the vehicle was running, police said.

After multiple attempts to wake Black, he responded and officers determined he was under the influence of alcohol. He was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI. While he was being transported to police headquarters, Black became "agitated and argumentative," according to police.

The situation escalated upon arrival to headquarters, where he kicked one of the officers, according to Newtown Township Police.

Black was then transported to Northampton Township headquarters where he was processed and arraigned on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer.

He was sent to Bucks County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail. Charges of DUI are also pending.
