A Newtown man is facing federal charges after investigators with the IRS say he attempted to evade income tax for 11 years.
According to information from United States Attorney Zane David Memeger, Joseph White, 46, was charged Wednesday with attempted evasion of payment of tax.
According to authorities, White willfully attempted to evade the full amount of income tax he owed for calendar years 2000 through 2011 by filing false information with the IRS and diverting money from his corporations for personal expenses.

If convicted, White faces a statutory maximum sentence of five years in prison, a fine, a $100 special assessment, and up to two years of supervised release.
The case was investigated by IRS Criminal Investigations and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Floyd Miller.
