Newtown Police Log: Thefts From Vehicles, Acme Grifter

The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents between Wednesday, Nov. 25, and Thursday, Dec. 3.

NEWTOWN, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents between Wednesday, Nov. 25, and Thursday, Dec. 3.*

November 25

— A Wrightstown Township said two of her political signs were stolen overnight, and one of her yard signs was tossed into the weeds. She said it was the second instance of her signs being stolen.

— A Newtown Township resident contacted police to report a fraud, saying he was notified of a direct deposit request attempting to divert his earnings into an unknown bank account. The charge was discovered before any funds were lost.

— A Wrightstown Township resident reported two yard signs were stolen from their property on Maher Lane.

— Police responded to a York Street home for a reported burglary. The investigation remains ongoing.

November 27

— A Newtown Township resident reported that a Small Business Administration loan for $10,000 was fraudulently taken out in his name. SBA is investigating the incident.

— Two people were arrested after police responded to a report of two pedestrians struck by a vehicle during a car-jacking robbery at the Chandler Hall Senior Center. The pursuit of the suspects ended in Philadelphia. Read more.

— At around 4:30 p.m., police responded to Acme Market to meet with a customer who reported a man who pickpocketed her wallet out of her purse. She described the man as a tall, skinny white male in his twenties.

— A resident reported that two decorative blue stones valued at $300 each were stolen from outside a South Sycamore Street home.

November 28

— At around 3 a.m., police were called to the 1000 block of Wrightstown Road for a traffic crash involving a vehicle hitting a utility pole and a tree. The driver was taken to Saint Mary's Medical Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The investigation is ongoing.

November 30

— At 5:30 p.m., a resident contacted police to report wire fraud, with a total estimated loss of more than $30,000. The investigation is ongoing.

December 2

— Police responded to the parking lot of the Newtown Athletic Club for a report of thefts from vehicles. Two cars had smashed windows and several items were stolen from inside. The scene was processed and the investigation is ongoing.

*Two DUI arrests were made during this time period.
