Newtown Police Make Arrest In One Car Crash, Investigate Retail Thefts

Township police also conduct roving DUI patrols and truck safety enforcement details.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrest between Sept. 1 and Sept. 7:

September 1

  • Police conducted roving DUI and impaired driving details over the Labor Day holiday weekend. During the details, 15 vehicles were investigated, resulting in no arrests, two traffic citations, and 13 warnings for traffic violations.

  • At approximately 10:30 p.m. police were dispatched to the area of Swamp Road and Neshaminy Avenue in Wrightstown for a single-vehicle traffic accident. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

September 4

  • Police were dispatched to the Lululemon store in the Village At Newtown Shopping Center around 11:30 a.m. on Labor Day for the report of a retail theft. The total value of the loss was $1,576. A witness told Patch that he and his wife were in the store shopping when he noticed a man and woman fill up two bags with merchandise and then leave the store without paying. He said the two individuals then drove away in a white Nissan.

  • The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail in the area of Lookout Park in Upper Makefield. The unit is made up of officers from Newtown Township, Newtown Borough and Upper Makefield. During the detail, 15 trucks were stopped and inspected, and six citations and eleven warnings were issued for violations that were found. Two trucks were placed out of service and towed.
  • Police were dispatched to Acme around 2:45 p.m. for the report of a retail theft. The manager was able to stop the female subject, recovered the items valued at around $25, and declined to press charges. The subject was advised not to return to the store.
