Newtown Quakers To Feature Acclaimed Author, Easter Egg Hunt

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The Newtown Quaker Meeting Adult Class program at 9:45 a.m. on Easter Sunday, March 31 will feature Ari Honarvar leading a program on "Resilience Through Joy" at the Quaker Meetinghouse, 219 Court Street in Newtown.

Quaker Meeting for worship based on silent meditation will follow at 11, and at 12:15 p.m. an Easter Egg Hunt for “children of all ages” will take place on the Meetinghouse grounds.

Ari Honarvar is the author of "A Girl Called Rumi," a highly-acclaimed novel that channels her experiences growing up in post-revolution Iran where joy was systematically repressed but never eliminated.

Honarvar conducts workshops for refugees, students, mental health workers, and medical staff on the practice of savoring joy even in the toughest environments. In her presentation, Ari will join with those present in “opening to joy through grounding our six senses.”

Ari is the daughter-in-law of Newtown Quaker Meeting member, Pat Sherwin. She lives in San Diego and will be presenting via Zoom.

Newtown Friends Meeting co-founded by "Peaceable Kingdom" painter and Quaker minister, Edward Hicks, in 1815, is open to all who wish to attend. Regular First Day Education classes (Sunday School) for all ages begin at 9:45 a.m. and Meeting for Worship begins at 11 a.m. Childcare is provided.
