Newtown Quaker Meeting to Hear about Philadelphia’s Oxford Circle Community Program

Anita Lyndaker-Studer, founding Executive Director of the Oxford Circle Christian Community Development Association will speak to the Newtown Meeting Adult Class at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, September 29, at the historic Quaker Meetinghouse, 219 Court Street (http://www.newtownfriendsmeeting.org). Meeting for Worship in the manner of Friends will follow at 11 a.m. The public is invited.

Anita’s talk will be “Faith into Action: The Oxford Circle Christian Community Development Association (OCCCDA),” its plans, programs, and achievements.

OCCCDA grew out of Oxford Circle Mennonite Church’s vision to serve the wider community beyond its walls by focusing on: 1) development of a comprehensive learning community, 2) family support, and 3) economic and community development. OCCCDA partners with Carnell, a local public elementary school serving approximately 1000 students, all from economically disadvantaged families.

Anita Lyndaker-Studer has a Master’s degree in Social Administration from Temple University. She was the Acting Director at Temple University’s Center for Social Policy and Community Development prior to becoming the founding Executive Director of the OCCCDA in January 2008. This past January, she stepped down as ED to have more time with her two daughters, Emma age 8 and Annalyn age 4, and husband Mark Studer. Currently she is working as a consultant for several area nonprofits in the areas of organization, community and fund development.

Newtown Friends Meeting, is open to the public, with Sunday School classes for children and adults at 9:45 a.m. and worship based on expectant silence “after the manner of Friends” at 11 a.m. Childcare is provided.
