Newtown Township Police Investigate Burglary; Charge Man With Assault
Other reports included a man with shotgun at Newtown Crossing and a dump truck crash that hurt three on Swamp Road.
NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrest between April 3 and April 8:
April 3
- At approximately 9:48 a.m. police received the report of a theft from an unlocked vehicle on Bennington Place. The victim reported that his dash camera had been removed at some point after parking their vehicle the night before.

- The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail in the area of Durham Road and Fox Hill Drive in Wrightstown Township. The unit is made up of officers from Newtown Township, Newtown Borough and Upper Makefield. During the detail, ten trucks were stopped and inspected, and two warnings were issued for violations that were found.
April 7
- In the early morning hours, police responded for the report of a mental health warrant assistance assignment in the 300 block of West Hanover Street in Newtown Township. A man was reportedly armed with a shotgun and refused commands to exit the property. The additional occupants of the home were evacuated and a decision was made to initiate a “barricade subject” protocol, where numerous agencies from the Bucks County South-Central Emergency Response Team responded to the scene. Road closures including Richboro Road from Mill Pond to St Leonard’s Road were put into place, and adjoining properties were evacuated for the safety of the public. After several hours of negotiations, the man surrendered to police and was subsequently transported to a medical facility for treatment. Criminal charges are pending. There were no reported injuries to the offender, the public, or to the police officers.
- At approximately 11:49 a.m. police responded to the 900 block of Swamp Road for a report of a vehicle and dump truck collision. Both occupants of the vehicle were critically injured, and the operator of the truck received moderate injuries. All were transported to St. Mary Medical Center by medical personnel. Newtown crash investigators processed the crash scene and Swamp Road remained closed until the truck could be relocated.
- At approximately 4:15 .po.lice were dispatched to a Wrightstown Township home for the report of a disturbance. As a result of the investigation, a man was charged with simple assault, resisting arrest and harassment.

- At approximately 7:45 p.m. police were dispatched to Hortulus Farm Garden & Nursery for the report of a burglary. The investigation is ongoing.
