Newtown Woman Killed In Double-Fatal NJ Crash

​A Newtown woman and a passenger in her car were killed in a crash Monday after the SUV she was driving was hit by a dump truck in NJ.

A Newtown woman and a passenger in her car were killed in a crash Monday after the SUV she was driving was hit by a dump truck in New Jersey, according to authorities. Nancy Harris, 79, was killed in the Monday morning crash in Plumstead Township, Ocean County, N.J., authorities have confirmed.

The crash happened just before 11 a.m. in the area of Route 539 and Longswamp Road. The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Harris and her passenger, Helen Conover, 84, of Hamilton, N.J., were pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation conducted by the Prosecutor's Office and the Plumstead Township Police Department revealed that Harris turned left onto Rt. 539, into the path of the dump truck, which was traveling northbound with a 20-ton load.

The truck hit the driver's side of the SUV and overturned in a nearby field. When police arrived, the SUV had extensive damage and both women were deceased.

The dump truck driver, identified as James Bevacqua, 58, of Little Egg Harbor, was transported to Deborah Heart and Lung Center with minor back pain.
