Officials reportedly removed paid parking kiosk from 2017 proposed budget.

Newtown Borough will not be seeing paid parking in its municipal lot on Washington and Centre avenues according to BucksLocalNews.com
The outlet reports officials struck the idea from its proposed 2017 budget Thursday and cited the public backlash for it being taken off the docket for 2017.
Residents and business owners started a petition to nix the paid parking proposal, saying it would hurt area employees, businesses, and shoppers.

The council discussed purchasing three kiosks that would only accept debit and credit cards as a way to make up the cost of repaving the lot as well as funding various street repairs. The proposed fees were suggested to be $1 an hour on Monday to Saturday between 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a three-hour maximum.
The outlet reports the council will work with residents and businesses to find alternatives to paid parking.
