Opinion: Is Construction In Newtown Causing Problems?

With all of the construction happening in Newtown, is it interrupting daily living and activities for its residents?

If you have been out and about in Newtown lately, you have most likely noticed all of the construction happening around the Village Of Newtown and Goodnoe Corner shopping centers. With new additions arriving such as Chipolte, MOD Pizza, Iron Hill Brewery, Sycamore Street Dental and more. it is changing the landscape of the Newtown we used to know and turning into a new area for the modern generation.

But the real question here is that is all of this construction a bit too much? An example of this is that I attend Bucks County Community College and I take a SEPTA bus to school everyday and that bus happens to go right into the center of all the construction. When the bus arrives there, I always look out the window and see all the trucks, cranes, piles of dirt, men in hard hats and all the buildings that are taking slow to complete. But the real problem with all of this construction is what it is causing to traffic. Since construction started, the average speeds of drivers in that area went from 45mph down to 25mph which means that will all of this construction, traffic is moving at a slower pace and that could cause potential problems today and in the future.

The other problem with all of the new businesses popping up is the potential of them ruining the reputation and sales of the current businesses in both shopping centers that have been there for the longest time. Businesses such as KO, Pet Valu, Norman's Hallmark and more have now an increased risk of loss of sales because of these new businesses coming up that provide the same or similar services as the current and original businesses. This may not be an bad problem now but once the businesses are up and operating, this could mean increase of sales for the new businesses and a decrease for the original.

The main thought with all of this is simple: "Is Newtown the same as it used to be?" The past has already been written about all of the history about our town and the people of it who made history but in my opinion, I do believe that all of these businesses and construction is not keeping Newtown an historic town but it is turning it into a big shopping mall for the modern generation.

But what do you think? Do you think this construction is a good thing? Is it a bad thing? Should we be worried about it? What does this mean for businesses? Let me know down in the comments or you can message me on twitter @therealbl3ssed.
