Parents Launch Petition Against Council Rock Redistricting Plan
A petition has been launched in opposition to a redistricting plan under consideration in the Council Rock School District.

NEWTOWN, PA — A petition has been launched in opposition to a redistricting plan under consideration in the Council Rock School District.
As of Friday afternoon, 200 people have signed the petition, which opposes the most recent redistricting proposal released late last month. The school board is expected to discuss the proposal on Nov. 15. The meeting will be held at Newtown Middle School starting at 7 p.m.
According to the petition, which was launched by resident David Kenney, the plan is "too disruptive" and, if passed, students may be subjected to another redistricting again in a matter of years.

The new proposal released in late October includes several changes from maps previously circulated. Those changes include revised sending areas for Holland Elementary and Hillcrest Elementary schools, as well as shifting more students from Wrightstown Elementary to Sol Feinstone.

"Unfortunately, with the Board's proposal they may well have maxed schools in the North and South with no options for the future. So another major redistricting could encompass multiple schools and involve the proposed flip to expand North feeder classroom availability," the petition states.
The petition asks the board to stop the current redistricting plan and "void restrictive CRSD Boards redistricting 'guidelines' that handcuff the administration." The petition suggests Richboro Elementary School should be flipped from a South feeding school to a North feeding school, effective starting in 2019-2020. Such a move would "immediately" solve the imbalance of students attending North.
It further states that Rolling Hills should be expanded, and asks that students there be relocated to Richboro Middle School for the duration of construction. Students at Wrightstown Elementary School, which is currently undergoing construction, are currently utilizing the Richboro Middle School building.
The district's redistricting committee has been working since last year to craft the plan, which has been revised since its initial creation.
