PennDOT To Hold Open House On Proposed U.S. 202/Route 179 Roundabout

PennDOT is proposing to construct a roundabout to replace the existing signalized intersection at U.S. 202 and Route 179.

SOLEBURY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will hold an open house to gather input from the public on its plans to replace the U.S. 202 and Route 179 intersection with a roundabout in Solebury Township.

The in-person meeting will be held Tuesday, June 16 from 5:30 to 6 p.m. at the Solebury Township Municipal Building, 3092 Sugan Road, Solebury 18963.

The meeting will be conducted as an open house, giving interested people the opportunity to circulate among informational display boards and discuss the different facets of the project one-on-one with PennDOT’s design team.

A virtual public meeting was held on Tuesday, June 9. The recording of the meeting can be found on the U.S. 202 and Route 179 Roundabout Project webpage. The public can also provide feedback using the online comment form.

PennDOT is proposing to construct a roundabout to replace the existing signalized intersection at U.S. 202 (Lower York Road), Route 179 (West Bridge Street) and Kitchen Lane. The existing intersection will be realigned and reconfigured into a single lane roundabout, including a northbound bypass lane to Route 179.

The proposed work includes the replacement of the existing signalized intersection. The existing intersection will be realigned and reconfigured into a single lane roundabout, including a northbound bypass lane to Route 179.

Construction of the proposed roundabout is scheduled to begin in March 2028 and be completed by October 2029.

According to PennDOT, the proposed conversion of the intersection to a roundabout will increase safety, reduce the number of conflict points, lower the frequency and severity of crashes, and alleviate area congestion.

Public Comment

A public comment period continues through June 23 on the project. The community is encouraged to respond with questions and concerns.
