The medical emergency happened during a funeral Friday. The victim survived thanks to the CPR skills of a family member, police said.

A person attending a funeral at Washington Crossing National Cemetery suffered a heart attack Friday morning, but survived thanks to the quick thinking and CPR skills of a family member, according to information from police.

Upper Makefield Police shared information about the incident on its Facebook page with the hopes of educating the public about how important it is to know CPR.

"Although our officers arrived on scene in under 4 minutes, that was 4 minutes in which oxygen was still being circulated which greatly contributed to keeping their loved one alive," the post read.

The unidentified victim was eventually transported to St. Mary Medical Center, where the doctors and nurses were able to stabilize the patient.

"We share this story to show how being prepared can save a life. One of the family members was trained in CPR and began to administer CPR immediately," police said. "If you have never been trained in CPR, we ask that you consider getting certified. You never know when you might need it."
