Philly Region Under Winter Weather Advisory

As much as five inches of snow could fall Saturday, the National Weather Service predicts.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued across the Philadelphia region, the National Weather Service has announced. The advisory, which covers Bucks, Delaware, Chester, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties, goes into effect at 1 a.m. Saturday. It will be in place for 24 hours, the NWS said.

As much as five inches of snow could fall during that time. The heaviest snow accumulation is expected to happen between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday.

The chance of snow around Philadelphia on Saturday is now at 90 percent, the NWS estimates. Forecasters say travelers should plan on slippery road conditions and reduced visibility.

A Hazardous Weather Outlook is in place in the Lehigh Valley, where two inches is expected.

After Saturday, there is another chance of snow in the forecast. The NWS predicts there is a possibility of snow Monday night into Tuesday.

Here is the forecast:

Today: Cloudy, with a high near 39. West wind around 7 mph.

Tonight: Snow likely, mainly after 3am. Cloudy, with a low around 30. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Saturday: Snow. High near 34. North wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Saturday Night: A chance of snow, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. West wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 38. West wind 8 to 15 mph.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 24.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 39.

Monday Night: A chance of snow showers after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday: A chance of rain and snow showers before 11am, then a chance of rain showers between 11am and 5pm, then a chance of rain and snow showers after 5pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. Chance of precipitation is 40%
