Piloxing: The Latest in Fitness Comes to the NAC
Piloxing, a mix of Pilates and boxing, combines interval training and controlled impact movements to work large muscle groups.

The newest craze in fitness has come to the Newtown Athletic Club.
Piloxing – a combination of Pilates and boxing – is now on the fall schedule, which began Monday.
Piloxing classes combine interval training and controlled impact movements to work large muscle groups, explained the NAC’s Group Exercise Director Diana Dececco.

Dececco, who coordinates the group fitness class schedule for the gym, said she’s excited to bring Piloxing to Newtown.
“People are looking for something new. That’s what our goal is – to give our members something new and exciting,” she said.

According to www.piloxing.com, the exercise is an inter-disciplinary program that combines Pilates and boxing moves “into a fat torching, muscle sculpting, core-centric interval workout, guaranteed to whip you into shape using a class format that’s both fun and challenging.”
Dececco said the cross-training workout is perfect for those looking to do their cardio and strength training all within a one-hour class. These days, she said, “people want everything in one hour.”
One-pound weighted gloves are optional during the workout. Also, participants are barefoot. Piloxing is good for all workout levels, Dececco said.
This Sunday, Sept. 18, there will be a special Piloxing class that’s open to the public as well as NAC members. The class is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and is $10 for nonmembers. To register, call the club at 215-968-0600.
