Plow Accident Closes Stoopville Road

The road was closed between Linton Hill Road and Delaney Drive for about six hours Sunday, according to Newtown Township Police.

A portion of Stoopville Road in Newtown Township was closed Sunday after a plow hit a telephone pole during a snow and ice storm that caused perilous driving conditions throughout the region.

The road was closed between Linton Hill Road and Delaney Drive for about six hours, according to Newtown Township Police.

Police did not say if there were injuries associated with the accident, but power outages were reported. Power was restored by the morning, according to information from PECO.

A snow and sleet storm that arrived in the region Sunday afternoon caused poor road conditions throughout the township, police said. Council Rock Schools had a delayed opening Monday as a result of the weather.

“The roads are extremely icy. Please use common sense when driving. Please stay home if you don’t need to be out as we are handling multiple accidents due to the weather conditions,” Newtown Township Police said via Facebook on Sunday evening.

PennDOT deployed more than 335 trucks to salt and plow throughout the Philadelphia region. PennDOT temporarily reduced the speed limit on several area expressways. Normal speed limits were restored by Monday morning.

Dozens of accidents were reported throughout the region on Sunday, including on 95, 202 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
